If you want to completely remove those icons from your Blog, read this article...
And if you would like to change the appearance of Quickedit Pencil icon, stay here. So, the default icon for Quick editing our Posts and Widgets are PEN and SCREWDRIVER. Like in the picture below.
Now, you know already that nobody can see these except you. But if you use them, and they do hurt your eyes, there's a way to change the appearance of Pencil icon.CHANGING QUICKEDIT PENCIL WITH CUSTOMIZED PICTURE
First, back up your template. Then go to:
DASHBOARD -- LAYOUT -- EDIT HTML, click on the EXPAND WIDGET TEMPLATES, and in the code section, find the following line of code (using CTRL + F for easy searching):

<img alt='' class='icon-action' height='18' src='http://www.blogger.com/img/icon18_edit_allbkg.gif' width='18'/>
...place URL of you picture instead of the Blogger URL (part in red). Save Settings.<img alt='' class='icon-action' height='18' src='http://www.blogger.com/img/icon18_edit_allbkg.gif' width='18'/>
Keep in mind that you should change the width='18' and height='18', if your picture is diferent size (if your pic is 25x25, change it to width='25' and height='25').
Save Settings. And that's it.
For example I've changed it into Smiley Face.
It's not very important customization, I know. But it can be fun....Smile!

You are the fourth page I am trying to GET a pencil/blob of coal/pix or anything on the new site I am starting and I cannot even get an edit tool there!! I would settle for a dog T- - d.!
I don't quite follow...
I found an easy answer. I have several blogs.. so I went to a blog that had the pencil edit.. took it to the blog that had NO pencil edit and copy/paste from blog one that DID HAVE an edit pencil. NOW>> all my blogs have edit pencils... real pain not having them there.

I used the city sleeps 3 column template from your site...thank you very much! Please ignore my question earlier via your contact form on how to upload the .xml file. I figured that out.
My current issue is I am unable to find the "trash can" icon in order to delete any comments, whether they are my own or from someone else. Is there something I can do to fix this? Thanks so much!
I know how to add an ALT tag to the Quickedit Pencil icon, but I can't add it to the Screwdriver Icon.
